I can definitely see how these haircuts “neutralize” the gender of the wearer. But the fact that all the guys photographed are wearing makeup significantly adds to the neutralizing effect.
There is nothing androgynous about any of these photos with possibly the exception of the last. All but one look very traditionally feminine females; the last looks like he could be a fem boy in makeup. In my opinion, if one wants to be truly androgynous, one needs to shave all hair on ones head and face (yes, that means eyebrows too) and have no makeup, but even then delicate or heavy facial features and mannerisms will generally give away ones true sex/gender.
