The NASCAR Cup Series returns to the Chicago street course on Sunday for the Grant Park 165.
Shane van Gisbergen is back in the field but with more experience in a NASCAR race car. This will be his sixth start in a Cup Series race while also running the full Xfinity Series schedule this season; SVG has three wins in the Xfinity Series in 2024, all on road courses including Saturday's win at the Chicago street course.
SVG will start fifth on Sunday with Kyle Larson on the pole.

Bubba Wallace slams into Bubba Wallace postrace
Bubba Wallace slams into Alex Bowman during the cool-down lap, with Wallace unhappy with an earlier incident with contact. Bowman did have his window net down, so that might be noted by NASCAR.
Alex Bowman wins at Chicago!
Tyler Reddick bounces off the wall through turns 4 and 5, and Alex Bowman increases the gap. The No. 48 Chevrolet wins at Chicago and locks himself into the playoffs!
Lap 57: White flag next time by for Alex Bowman
Alex Bowman leads Joey Hand and Tyler Reddick (on slicks) by four seconds with what will be two laps to go.
Lap 55: Christopher Bell into the wall!
Christopher Bell gets turned after Martin Truex Jr. and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. makes contact off of turn 2. He is off the pace!
Lap 54: Green flag with less than five minutes left!
Alex Bowman gets a clean single-file restart with less than five minutes left on the clock. Here comes Christopher Bell, now in seventh.
Lap 52: Alex Bowman leads, but a caution for Josh Berry
Josh Berry has crashed in turn 2, and the caution is out.
Alex Bowman took the lead a half-lap before then on a tight move against Joey Hand. Christopher Bell is now ninth and is told slick tires should be better now.
Lap 50: Alex Bowman closes in on Joey Hand for the lead; AJ Allmendinger into the tire barrier
Alex Bowman is staying within two car lengths of leader Joey Hand. AJ Allmendinger is into the tire barrier but gets going eventually. Green flag continues.
Lap 48: Leaders stay out on wet tires
Joey Hand and the rest of the leaders stay out on wet tires with the countdown to the white flag under 20 minutes.
Alex Bowman has a huge chance here to get into the playoffs with a win, being on the bubble as a wild card. Hand is reminded of this by his team, that Bowman will be aggressive.
Christopher Bell will restart 13th as the best on slick tires.
Joey Hand wins Stage 2
Joey Hand, a road racer who races IMSA and is racing a Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing Ford third entry, outlasts Alex Bowman at the line to win Stage 2.

The bulk of the leaders pitted with two laps to go, with a majority pitting as pit road closed in a rush to get slick tires on.
There will be less than 20 minutes left when the final stage goes green.
Lap 42: Some pitting before end of Stage 2
Christopher Bell and Ty Gibbs have pulled away from the rest of the field. Some cars pit before the end of the stage. Is it dry enough yet for slicks?
Chase Elliott, Austin Hill and Austin Dillon lead several cars outside the top 10 down pit road. They are putting slick tires on.
Lap 40: Chase Elliott sliding
Chase Elliott restarted sixth but has dropped to 14th. Not sure what the issue is on the No. 9 Chevrolet, if anything.
Lap 38: Green again as Christopher Bell leads
Christopher Bell continues to lead in a five-car breakaway up front. Josh Berry goes into the tire barriers in turn 4, but is OK and continues. Green flag remains.
Lap 34: Kyle Larson is into the tire barrier!
Kyle Larson, like Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe before him, cannot get the car slowed down heading into Turn 6, and he slams into the tires and under the barrier.
Larson gets pulled out from under the barrier, but he has pretty significant front-end damage. His day as a contender is done.
"It's broke," Larson tells his team concerning the suspension. He stops the car short of pit road and is done for the day.
Lap 31: Green flag on a single-file restart
Ty Gibbs leads the field to the green flag on Lap 31 during a single-file restart.
Christopher Bell takes the lead from Ty Gibbs as Denny Hamlin and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. wreck into the tire barriers in Turn 6. Still green as both eventually get going.
NBC shows a replay of the incident, with Hamlin trying to brake but locking up and hitting Stenhouse's rear bumper.
Back to a yellow flag
NASCAR has lifted the red flag, and the yellow is out again. Shouldn't be an issue to make this race official, about 12 laps from now.
The red flag lasted 1 hour, 43 minutes.
Engines re-fired once more, for good this time
Engines are re-fired again under clearing skies. The cars will start on wet tires, and the race to the 8:20 p.m. CT conclusion time will be shaped by how soon the cars will need to pit for slick tires.

That next line of storms is here, just as NASCAR tells drivers to re-fire engines. So there is going to be some more waiting.
Drivers to their cars at 6:30 p.m. CT
NASCAR tells drivers to get strapped into the race cars at 6:30 p.m. CT. That's good news. The race is official after Lap 38.
There does appear to be another line of storms, but the weather could be OK after that. The cutoff time for this race is 8:20 p.m. CT.
Red flag
The red flag is out at Lap 26 to help some of the areas on the course with standing water. The rain continues to fall in Chicago.
With SVG out, this race is a question mark as to the favorite now. Is it Christopher Bell?

Lap 25: Shane van Gisbergen out after hitting the wall
On the first green flag lap of Stage 2, several things occur. First, Bubba Wallace spins off the bumper of Alex Bowman early in the lap. Then Chase Briscoe slides through a corner, spins and slaps the wall. That brings out the caution.
But the biggest moment occurs as Briscoe clips Shane van Gisbergen while sliding through the corner, forcing Gisbergen to slam into the wall. He is out of the car and done for the day with heavy damage to the right side of the car.
Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace collide at end of pit road during pit stops
Christopher Bell leads the field off pit road as the field fully switches to wet tires. The leaders slow up at the exit of pit road, and Tyler Reddick collides into the back of 23XI Racing teammate Bubba Wallace. Both look OK to continue.
NASCAR announces 8:20 p.m. CT conclusion time
If the race can't get to the completed distance, NASCAR will throw the white flag at 9:20 p.m. ET/8:20 p.m. CT and the race will end after the following lap. That only plays a factor if there is a delay.

Lap 17: Caution!
Corey Lajoie spins into the wall in turn 5 at a tight spot on the course, and the caution is out. Rain is coming, but surely the leaders won't yet pit.
And that's the case. Stage 1 will end under yellow, and the rain has now soaked the course.
Lap 15: Christopher Bell leads, but SVG goes back in front
Christopher Bell leads lap 15, but Shane van Gisbergen returns to the point shortly thereafter.
Rain is coming. How will that change the strategy and can it wait for the stage caution?
Lap 12: Here comes SVG
Ty Gibbs gets caught up in lap traffic, including Joey Logano, and SVG takes advantage to take the lead.
Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson and Chase Briscoe are closing in on the top two, too. Bell is there.
La[ 5: Ty Gibbs continues to lead as cars slip through the turns
It appears the final few turns are the wettest, but the leaders are dealing with it OK. Michael McDowell pits for wet tires from eighth.
Shane van Gisbergen is in third behind Ty Gibbs and Tyler Reddick as the top eight cars are close together.
Green flag!
Most of the field is on regular tires as the green flag flies! Ty Gibbs leads Tyler Reddick.
Engines are fired (again)
NASCAR has told drivers to fire the engines again. Some teams have switched to wet tires. The delay ends up being less than 20 minutes. But there is weather inching in from the north.
The course is wet but certainly not soaked.
Race start on hold; wet weather tires available as rain falls
The Grant Park 165 start will be delayed, per the NASCAR radio. The command to fire engines was given about two minutes before NASCAR told drivers to turn the cars off. There was no specific reason given.
Not sure if it is related, but it is clearly raining on one end of the course.
Now the cars are being covered on pit road, and teams are being told that they can put wet weather tires on cars after a pace lap to test the surface conditions. Drivers will retain their starting position if they pit at that time.
