2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship: R2 Tee Times & Pairings Explored (2024)

The PGA Tour’s next major, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, started on June 20th and will continue until the 23rd. Having been organized at some historic venues, the major has now returned to the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington after eight years.

Last time at the Greens, in 2016, Brooke Henderson emerged as the winner of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, beating Lydia Ko. It was the first major victory for Henderson, though it didn’t come easily – she defeated Ko in the playoffs after a tie. If we talk about this year, Henderson’s first round didn’t go as well either, with the golfer finishing at T36 with 1 over 73. With this, the second round remains highly anticipated.

The play of the round will take place at two tees (tee 1 and tee 10). It will begin at 3 p.m. UK time with the group of Caroline Inglis, Olivia Cowan, and Weiwei Zhang teeing off. The rest of the players will follow the trio as per the schedule:

The field of 156 players is packed with past champions, including the defending champion Ruoning Yin, and the 2021 winner Nelly Korda. However, out of these past champions, only Korda has been able to show her magic in the first round. Moreover, the leader’s spot is occupied by Lexi Thompson, scoring 4 under 68 with the help of 6 birdies while conceding 2 bogeys.

Will one of Thompson or Korda be able to capitalize?

It looks like Lexi Thomson is returning to form after a painful start to 2024. Out of the eight tournaments she has played so far, excluding the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, she missed cuts in five of them, one of which was the last major, the US Women’s Open. She was so emotional after she missed the cut that she announced her retirement after completing the current season.

However, she did finish at T3 in the Ford Championship with an overall 17 under in March but she lost her momentum again. Now, it looks like she regained the momentum for good as last week also in the Meijer LPGA Classic, she got a narrow defeat by Lilia Vu in the playoff after three players tied, third being the Aussie golfer Kim Grace, with an overall score of 16 under.

Well, Thompson is back on track after losing her momentum. After winning 6 events, including the Chevron Championship (first major of the year), of the first eight she played in 2024, the world number one kind of lost her touch and couldn’t even make cuts in the next two (the US Open and the Meijer LPGA Classic). Hopefully, she will regain the lost momentum in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
